For some time Gary Paffett has wanted to be a race driver for McLaren, he’s been denied this time after time, but why? He’s such a good driver, who could get a break soon…

There have been several rumours floating around the F1 news sites and magazines that McLaren will give Prodrive their new MP4-23, (when its built) and they will give Prodrive their engines as well, effectively creating a McLaren B team, which are likely to run out of Prodrive’s factory, however a McLaren B team could run out of the old Woking factory.

So, where does this bring Gary Paffett in? Well, if McLaren do supply Prodrive with cars and engines they could well give Gary and possibly Pedro a break that they have been looking for, for all their years of service.

For along time, Gary has always said he wanted to be in Formula one and 2008 could be his year, a new team, new opportunities and if Prodrive do go with McLaren, Pedro and Gary could get drives for 2008.

I've always made my intentions clear that F1 is where I want to be in 2008," Paffett told Autosport magazine."To kick one of the four HWA drivers out to accommodate me wouldn't have been fair, because I only plan to be in the DTM for one year. "It's my aim to do my very best in this car and to get prepared for 2008 and keep working with McLaren-Mercedes to that end."

"My intention for the future is to race in Formula 1, so to be doing so in the DTM is a massive plus for my preparations towards that goal," he said.
