BMW WilliamsF1 driver Mark Webber would maintain his eighth place after the second Friday practice session for the Chinese GP. Team-mate Pizzonia would suffer a right rear suspension failure on his 4th lap. He would return to his pit but would only return to the track with fifteen minutes remaining.

Chinese GP Friday 2nd Practice

The second Friday session would see the Toyota of Ricardo Zonta first out on
the track. He would be joined by McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa and Red Bull's
Viantonio Liuzzi. BMW WilliamsF1's Mark Webber would also join them. After the first flying lap the order from the first practice session would be maintained
with De la Rosa fastest from Zonta, and Liuzzi. Mark was able to put his FW27
into second.

WebberZonta would take this spot back with a lap of 1m:36.919, to be three tenths down on de la Rosa. Liuzzi was now in third. Zonta would go fastest while Mark and the second FW27 of Antonio Pizzonia were now in third and fourth. Kimi Raikkonen would take to the track and would start out on a very quick lap but
would be held up finishing only in tenth with a time of 1m:37.367. De la Rosa would move back to the top of the times with a 1m:35.962 but Raikkonen would beat this time with a 1m:34.547 to go fastest by over a second.

Michael Schumacher's lap would see him set a time of 1:35.929. De la Rosa would cut Kimi's lead to just over half a second with a time of 1m:35.191.
Barrichello was now in tenth. Klien was to have an off track moment at Turn sixteen

Barrichello would improve to now be in sixth with a 1m:36.034. Jenson Button
was now in ninth. Montoya would put his McLaren in third making it a McLaren
1-2-3 at the top of the times. Juan Pablo would move ahead of Kimi with a time
of 1m:35.541. Fernando Alonso was behind the leading McLaren's with a time of
1m:35.298, to be +0.7 behind Montoya. But Zonta would take the fastest spot
with a very quick time of 1m:33.619, 0.9 ahead of Montoya.

With twenty five minutes of the session run the order was Zonta from Montoya,
Raikkonen, de la Rosa, Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Barrichello, Klien,
Fisichella, Webber, Liuzzi, Button, and Coulthard. Button would move into
eighth with a 1m:35.927. With thirty minutes of the session Massa would take
eighth from Jenson.

Despite having their Friday driver in the lead Toyota's Jarno Trulli and Ralf
Schumacher were way down the order in sixteenth and seventeenth places, despite running with the new TF105B. With a time of 1m:32.977 Zonta would move even further ahead in the times. Alonso would improve his time with a 1:34.296 but was some 1.3 seconds off Zonta's pace.

FW27Kimi Raikkonen would now challenge Zonta when he was to set a time of 1m:34.092 to now be in second. With the final 15 minutes of the session counting down Coulthard would have a spin at Turn Two but was able to keep going to return to his pit. Even Kimi was to have a moment at this corner during the session. With ten minutes of the session remaining Zonta leads from Raikkonen, Alonso, de la Rosa, Montoya, Fisichella, Liuzzi, Webber, and Michael Schumacher. Rubens would set a time of 1m:35.116 to now be sixth fastest. Coulthard was right behind the Ferrari with a time of 1m:35.201. Like may other drivers Alonso would spin his Renault at Turn Two but was able to keep his car going. BAR, like Toyota, was also finding the going difficult with Sato and Button in fourteenth and sixteenth.

As the final five minutes commenced Pedro de la Rosa would jump back into first
with a stunning time of 1m:32.834. Button would also take a big jump up the
order with a 1m:35.072 to now be in sixth. Red Bull Christian Klein would have
an off a Turn fourteen when he was to suffer a right rear puncture. He would
make it back to his pit to have the tyre replaced. Jarno Trulli would have his
car stop at Turn five while Fisichella was now in sixth with a time of
1m:35.069.

With the Chequered flag showing for the end of the session Alonso would improve his time, but not his place, with a 1m:34.226. Barrichello was able to improve moving into sixth. Massa was now in ninth. Mark Webber was also able to improve in the closing moments to now be in eighth with a time of 1m:35.035.

For Antonio Pizzonia his session would come to a premature halt when he was to suffer a right rear suspension failure on his FW27 on his fourth lap. He was able to return to his pit and has the failure fixed. He would return to the track with just fifteen minutes remaining to finish the session in sixteenth with a time of 1m:35.709.
