On a hot and
sunny day the BMW WilliamsF1 team would return to testing after their
enforced break. The team was at the famous Monza circuit preparing for the
next race in the calendar the Italian Grand Prix, 4th September. The test is
for three days with Mark Webber and Test driver Nico Rosberg sharing the
testing duties.
Both
drivers would focus on preparing the FW27 for the Italian Grand Prix. Mark
would complete forty five laps, with a best time of 1m:22.491.Nico would
complete fifty two laps on his way to a best time of 1m:22.890. The team
would also take the opportunity to further investigate the reason behind the
tyre failures that took place during the Turkish Grand Prix.
WilliamsF1 Technical Director Sam Michael commented on the days testing by
saying: "Following the tyre incidents in Istanbul, the team spent the first
day of the Monza test analysing the potential cause of the problem. Williams
and Michelin have investigated the tyre running parameters, such as pressure
& camber, and concluded that the tyres were running within normal operating
ranges compared to other cars.
It is not
thought that the curbs caused the problem. Additionally, Williams have set
up tyre deflection tests in Grove to verify what parts of the bodywork the
tyre could have contacted during the high speed left hander at Istanbul. A
number of changes will be made during the test this week to avoid the
problem occurring again." |
