The BMW WilliamsF1 team would see both their drivers outside top ten after the second Friday practice session for the Canadian GP. Mark was in twelfth, while Nick was in fifteenth. Whether this is a poor result is yet to be seen given the team use of Friday to evaluate such things as tyres.

Canadian GP Friday 2nd Practice

For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the second Friday practice session was one that would see both team drivers drop down the order as other drivers were able to go faster. Both drivers would finish up outside the top ten with Mark twelfth and Nick fifteenth. It was a session marked by the large number of laps that drivers completed, possibly out of concern that it will rain on Saturday.

WebberThe start of second Friday practice would see Zonta, de La Rosa, speed, both Jordan drivers and Felipe Massa take to the track early, completing their installation laps. De la Rosa and Zonta would both quickly set times with de la Rosa going fastest with a time of 1m:18.807. Zonta was second with a 1m:18.979, but the Toyota driver would go fastest with a time of 1m:18.767.

But de la Rosa would reverse this by moving back to the top of the times with a 1m:18.272. Massa was in third. Renault's Fernando Alonso, after not having set a time in the earlier session, would come out and go second fastest with a time of 1m:17.844. Team-mate Fisichella would take this spot with a 1m:17.696 while Zonta again went fastest with a 1m:17.317. Pedro was in fourth with Massa fifth, Button sixth followed by Raikkonen in seventh with a time of 1m:18.643. But after there slow times in the first session Mark Weber would go fastest with a time of 1m:17.088.

But the Australian was beaten by BAR's Takuma Sato with a time of 1m:16.823. Michael Schumacher was now in third as virtually the whole field set times. Karthikeyan would spin his Jordan at Turn 3 but was able to avoid hitting anything and continued.

Fisichella was now in third while de la Rosa again went fastest with a time of
1m:16.575.Nick Heidfeld was down in eighth. This was a very hectic start to
proceedings. Nick would move up to be in fourth with a time of 1m:17.020 while Mark was in fifth. With fifteen minutes of the session run the order was de la Rosa, Sato, Fisichella, Nick, Mark, Ralf Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, Zonta, Trulli, and Alonso.

Zonta would go fastest with a time of 1m:16.173. de la Rosa would go fastest in the firs two sectors finishing his lap with a stunning time of 1m:15.280 to go fastest by 0.893 seconds.

The Sauber's of Massa and Villeneuve were in twelfth and twenty positions. Villeneuve would improve to be fifteenth. Kimi Raikkonen had slipped down to be in fourteenth. compared to the first. Nick would improve with a 1m:17.003 but was still behind Mark in fifteenth. Under five minutes and there was the usual rush of drivers looking to set a final quick time. Zonta was now in the 1m:14 sec. with a time of 1m:14.858. But like de la Rosa he will not be running on Saturday can afford to run his car quicker.

Kimi was now in fifth with a 1m:15.679. Nick would move ahead of Mark wit a time of 1m:16.826 but the pair were still way down the order, as the session would down to a close. In this time Mark was able to improve to be in twelfth with a time of 1m:16.661. Of the regular drivers Alonso was in third. Fisichella was now in sixth as the session came to a close. Michael would make a mistake running wide onto the grass. The Ferrari team is under pressure.

With the end of session the order was de la Rosa followed by Zonta, Alonso, Montoya, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Button, Sato, Ralf Schumacher, and Rubens Barrichello.
