On a cloudy day
the BMW WilliamsF1 team would complete their second day of testing at the
Barcelona circuit. The team continued with their development of the FW27.
Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld were scheduled to drive, however Mark was
forced to cut short his testing as a result of further problems with his
rib. This would see test driver Antonio Pizzonia join Nick in the afternoon
session.
While
he was at the track Mark would focus on testing various aerodynamic
configurations, in particular different wing settings. In the afternoon,
Antonio focused on tyre testing. Nick would also spend his day focusing on
testing various set-ups before switching to tyre testing for tyre supplier
Michelin. This would see Nick carry out several longer runs.
Nick would
complete 95 laps, with a best lap time of 1m:14.932, while Mark completed 52
laps and Antonio 57, setting times of 1m:16.051 and 1m:15.134, respectively.
WilliamsF1 Technical Director Sam Michael commented on the days testing. He
said: "An important day’s work in preparation for the start of the European
season - we concentrated on tyre testing for the Barcelona Grand Prix as
well as aero component, traction control and mechanical development tests.
Antonio picked up testing duties from Mark at lunchtime today as a
precaution to allow Mark more time out of the car to let the bruising from
his rib to recover." |
