Right Time to Leave

Ralf Schumacher's time at the WilliamsF1 team was to last six years but in 2005 he will be seen behind the wheel of a Toyota Formula One car. For Patrick Head, WilliamsF1 Director of Engineering, Ralf's departure is something that he regrets but it was still the right time for Ralf to leave.

While with the WilliamsF1 team Ralf would have six race wins, the first in 2001 at San Marino and the last in 2003 at Magny-Cours. But neither Ralf or the team was able to deliver on their ultimate goal of a championship.

On the BMW WilliamsF1 web site Head spoke of Ralf's leaving the WillimasF1 team. He said: “I do really regret Ralf leaving us. But after six years, it was the right time for both parties to look for new solutions. We really wanted to win the World Championship these six years, but unfortunately we didn’t succeed in achieving this goal.”

Ralf also reflected on his time with the WilliamsF1 team by saying: “It has been a long but beautiful time. It is anything but easy to leave the team after six years.”
