BMW WilliamsF1 drivers Juan Pablo Montoya would finish 9th in final MOnaco qualifying, while Ralf would drop to 12th after having set the second fastest time. He lost ten places on the grid due to his Thursday engine change after his BMW V10 failed. It will be a difficult race for both drivers.

Monaco GP Saturday Qualifying Part Two |
| |
| Final
qualifying would do little to encourage the BMW WilliamsF1 team with
Juan Pablo finishing ninth on the grid. Ralf, even though he would set
the second fastest time, would be twelfth on the grid for tomorrow's
race.
With
the track temperature up to 47°C the final qualifying session would see
Minardi's Bruni will be the first car to run, with Michael Schumacher
seventh. Bruni would set a time of 1m:20.115. team-mate Baumgartner was
next out and he would be 0.051 seconds ahead after sector one, finishing
the lap fastest by 0.06 seconds. Jordan's Giorgio Pantano was next and
he would set a time of 1m:17.443.
Jordan Team-mate Nick Heidfeld was next to run and he would be 0.231
seconds up after sector one, 0.788 up after sector, finishing with the
fastest time so far a 1m:16.488. For Jaguar's Christian Klein 285.4kmh
coming out of the tunnel would see him 0.461 seconds ahead of Heidfeld
through sector two. Klein would set a time of 1m:15.919.
Team-mate Mark Webber, now in the spare car with his original engine,
would be 0.019 up after sector one, 0.033 down after sector two, but he
would set the fastest time by 0.194 after a better final sector. For
Michael Schumacher a time of 19.4 seconds in sector one would see him
six tenths up. He would take provisional pole with a 1m:14.516, a great
lap considering it is believed that he is using the harder of the
available Bridgestone tyres.
Toyota's Cristiano Da Matta was out on his flying lap but was 0.672 down
after sector one, 1.4 seconds down after sector two, to finish with a
time of 1m:16.169 to move into fourth. Sauber's Felipe Massa would
finish his lap 1.7 seconds down on Michael's time. Barrichello was next
and he would be 0.068 down after sector one, 0.249 down in sector two,
to finish second 0.2 behind his Ferrari team-mate.
Toyota's Olivier Panis would move into fourth, 1.3 secs off the pace.
Juan Pablo was out on the track after having changed his car
substantially. He would be 0.263 off the pace after sector one,
finishing third 0.523 seconds behind Michael. Renault's Jarno Trulli was
next out. He would set a brilliant time to tale the fastest time by
around 0.5 seconds. Will he be able to maintain this a secure his first
pole position.
Next came BAR's Takuma Sato. He would be quicker than Trulli in the
first sector but would suffer a massive brake lockup at the Nouvell
chicane and lose any hope of taking pole. He would finish his lap in
fourth. Next was Renault's Fernando Alonso. He would be quicker than
Trulli in sector one but would lose time to finish in second with a time
of 1m:14.408. Sauber's Fisichella would move in seventh with Massa now
down in twelfth.
BAR's Jenson Button would be up after sector one but would lose time in
the middle sector to be in second at the end of his lap, with a time of
1m:14.396. McLaren's David Coulthard would finish a poor seventh.
team-mate Raikkonen would finish ahead in fifth but still 0.6 seconds
behind Trulli. With Ralf having to drop ten places on the grid it meant
that Trulli had secured his first pole. Ralf's lap would see him finish
in second, meaning twelfth for tomorrow's grid. |
