Monaco GP Saturday Qualifying Part One

The pre-qualifying session for the Monaco GP grid would see BMW WilliamsF1's Ralf Schumacher set the fastest time. Team-mate Juan Pablo would finish in ninth.

Ralf SchumacherFirst out for the pre qualifying session would be Ferrari's Michael Schumacher. He would finish with a lap of 1m:15.927, a considerable margin away from his fastest time on Thursday. Next was Rubens Barrichello and he would be almost half a second up on Michael after sector two. He would finish ahead of Michael, six tenths faster. Renaults Jarno Trulli was next and he would be fractionally faster after sector two, and after an excellent final sector would go fastest leading Rubens by three tenths. Team-mate Alonso is even faster than Trulli in sector onem, faster again in sector two, and takes the fastest time by two tenths.

BAR's Takuma Sato would move into second after his run. 2003 pole sitter Ralf was next out and would go fastest again by around three tenths ahead of Sato.
Sauber's Fisichella would go second, a thousandth of a second ahead of Alonso. BAR's Jenson Button would go second fastest while Sato would drop down to fifth. Felipe Massa would finish in eighth, a second behind Ralf's time.

For McLaren's David Coulthard his first sector would see him slightly down but by the end of the lap he would push his MP4-18 into second. Next was team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Kimi would set the best second sector and would just miss out by 0.176 from taken the top spot from Ralf.

For Jaguar's Mark Webber his lap would see him half a second behind after the first sector, finishing in twelfth the slowest so far. He would just be beaten by Toyota's Cristiano Da Matta who would go eleventh. Michael Schumacher was now down in twelfth. Jordan's Pantano would be almost two seconds down after sector two, finishing in fourteenth three seconds off the pace.

For Juan Pablo his lap would not work for him and ninth was all he could manage. The second Jaguar driver Christian Klein would finish just behind Webber in fifteenth. Toyota's second driver Olivier Panis would finish well ahead of Da Matta in tenth. Nick Heidfeld would be seven tenths ahead of his team-mate finishing in seventeenth. The two Minardi's would occupy the final two spots. A second would cover the top twelve runners so the final qualifying would be very interesting.
