Day Two of Three |
| |
| The second
day of testing for the BMW WilliamsF1 team at the Circuit de Catalunya would
see the team focus on their preparations for the San Marino Grand Prix.
Ralf Schumacher would join test
driver Marc Gene and IRL champion and Scott Dixon. Only Ralf and Scott would
set times as Marc would complete only three untimed laps.
The
day would be disrupted by poor weather conditions, with rain falling on the
circuit. The conditions were at their worst in the afternoon, but despite
this the team took the opportunity to conduct some welcome wet weather
testing. The team would conduct tyre compound evaluations, as well as
testing various constructions of wet weather tyres including full and
shallow wet tyres.
Scott, having his first run in a F1 car in the wet, would complete sixty
seven laps with a best time of 1:28.324. Ralf would also worked on tyre
evaluations as well as testing various setups for the FW26. He would also
work on various traction control settings. He would complete fifty eight
laps with a best time of 1:27.014.
WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer Sam Michael said: "It was wet in
Barcelona today. Ralf was working on different intermediate and full wet
tyre test programs, mechanical setup and traction control settings. Scott
had his first outing in the wet in a Formula One car and also concentrated
on wet tyre testing. He also worked on different engine maps and longer runs
to investigate new components."
The team will continue
testing on Friday. |
