Ferrari to appear before FIA

The FIA has asked the the Ferrari Formula One team and drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello to appear before the International Automobile Federation on June 26. This has come about due to the events that took place during the Austrian GP where Barrichello was told to let Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher win the race.

Michael & RubensThe outcry by the press and the public was totally against the decision that Ferrari took in letting Michael win the race.

The FIA issued a press release which said: "Following an incident during the last lap of the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix and incidents during the subsequent podium procedure, the FIA has summoned the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and the drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello to appear before the World Motor Sports Council at its next meeting."

In Brazil many have joined in the criticism of Ferrari's actions. Former world champion Emerson Fittipaldi said that he would never have let Schumacher past. He added: "It's a disgrace, an absurdity.

Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso added: "Today Brazilians are unanimous. Rubens Barrichello is the winner of the Austrian Gran Prix. The trophy is his."
