This is incredible! I really hope he showed him the massive upgrade package we have coming after the summer break and Carlos went - how can I refuse 😄
Honestly not sure how James has sold us over the others but he’s done a great job! Now just need the car!
Can’t believe we can go into quali with two drivers who will be able to challenge. We’re easily have the strongest driver line up of the midfield now.

Brilliant news. Arguably we have one of the strongest driver line ups on the grid from next year.
Vowles doing a great job!
Bring in Newey as the next big signing

yes, best news we've had in a long time, huh? Well done JV.
The timing of the announcement, just as the summer break starts, tells me that other announcements are imminent.
- The Mercedes seat is probably going to Antonelli.
- RBR has likely settled on Ricciardo for the rest of this year, if rumors are true
- VCARB and Lawson, maybe profiling him to graduate to RB next year?
- Alipine has an open seat still, and I'd guess Bottas is at the top of that list
- Audi with an open seat (not filled by Sainz, yay). Hard to guess who's going there. Let's see how Audi deals with the scrutiny of them being left with scraps. Checo? Whatever it is, they're the ones left standing when the music stopped.
And... best of all... Williams is set with two great drivers, one of them the pick of the litter, while the season is still going. How effing great is that?

Sargeant for Sainz is one hell of an upgrade already. It's not sunk in properly yet but I'm over the moon and trying not to get overly carried away speculating on why sainz chose williams of all teams to drive for.

Who buys sentimentality as the primary reason for carlos the romatic signing for us? Who are his childhood heroes? Aged 29 he's too young to remember hill and villeneuve. Maybe montoya? Or was he encouraged to appreciate older retired drivers through his dad and his love of the sport?
Buried away at the end of his statement is "all the right ingredients" hmmmm.

Sainz this year for me is a top 5 driver. Having his back to the wall has brought the best out of him.
Pressure is really on to provide a good car for our 2 young guns next year!
Who is fastest? Alex or Carlos?? Hmmm!!!
Bring it on!!!

Absolutely fantastic! But I just pray Williams actually give them a car for both Alex and Carlos to compete with in the next two years.

Great to hear that Sainz has signed for us for 2 years plus an option... Plus a get out clause...
Anyway, anyone hear what JV has alluded to in this article...
Specifically this section when he was asked about his chances of hiring Sainz just a day or so ago:
"“How confident am I? I think the odds are in my favour but I’ve been stung by this once already this year,” Vowles concluded."
If this indeed is an accurate quote, I wonder who JV is talking about...

What I'm hearing is there is no clause to allow him to leave for free but we all know if a big team came in with cash then he will leave (it's always been the case with any drivers contract)
Yep still can't believe he finally signed I had my doubts
One thing I will say Stick that in your Pipe Flavio he's now OURS
VAMOS Williams

WILL SUPPORT WILLIAMS AS LONG AS We HAVE A TEAM To Support

As said earlier ,great new,s Carlos onboard.
Adrian Newey is the next big target.
He want,s a shed load of money, but we can offer him that, i think.
Adrian,s Option,s.
Ferrari not really Adrains,s cup of tea i think?
Aston Martin Stroll to Aggressive and interfering i think?
Alpine Hmm.
Mclaren are sound as they are, i think
That leaves Williams ,with an easy going intelligent leader
Quality personel coming onboard.
Top class facilities being built
Great driver line up.
And the best challenge going.
What would you do.
Fed up of being in the widerness.
Come on Adrian, lets do this

That' s such a nice dream, I truly hope it will come true, eventhough everybody anounce that Newey is on its way to Aston Martin.
But as long as nothing is official, there is still hopes.

I think (if Craig Slater is right) it was holding out on the decision for Perez being replaced mid-season. He said Sainz’s decision was linked to this decision by Redbull - more likely sainz going to red bull at the start of next season

A good opportunity to pick up some Spanish sponsors , Sainz certainly brings more attention to the team.

It looks like Motorsport weeks website was also wondering exactly the same thing I was...

Turns out JV was referring to the bad weekend at Barcelona and Alpines sudden interest in Carlos and their upturn in form.
