Team Summary:
The second Friday practice for the 2022 Italian Grand Prix would commence
with a rapid procession of drivers coming out with a mix of tyres but the
medium being the most widely used. Both Williams drivers were out running
again with a split tyre evaluation programme. Sainz would set a 1m:23.156 to
be quickest but Verstappen would move ahead with a 1m:23.021 with both on
the medium tyre. Leclerc was able to move ahead of Verstappen with a time of
1m:22.307 followed by Verstappen, Sainz, Perez, Hamilton, Alonso, Russell
and Tsunoda eighth. Verstappen would return to the top of the times with a
1m:22.303 followed by Leclerc and Sainz. The top thirteen cars were all on
the medium tyre with ten minutes of the session completed.
The Williams pair were currently 16th and the second had yet to set a time.
Bottas would move into fourth ahead of Russell, Perez, Tsunoda, Hamilton,
Alonso and Ocon tenth. With close to twenty minutes of the session completed
the track would empty with just Bottas running. The Williams pair were
currently 15th and 19th. Bottas would pit only to see both Haas cars return
for soft tyre runs. Bottas would join them also on the soft tyre. Both
Williams cars would also come out on the soft tyre, joined by quite a few
others. After their soft tyre runs the Williams pair were currently sixth
and 17th.
At the front Verstappen would improve with a 1m:21.807 on the soft tyre. But
the session would be Red Flagged when Schumacher lost power and had to pull
off the track. The order was Verstappen followed by Leclerc, Norris, Sainz,
Hamilton, Alonso, Alex, Perez, Ricciardo and Zhou tenth. The track would
empty as the Haas was recovered. The session would restart with twenty five
minutes remaining in the session. Both Williams drivers would return
remaining on the soft tyre. Sainz was able to improve to be quickest with a
1m:21.664 while second place Verstappen had switched to the medium tyre. He
would be joined by quite a few drivers with fifteen minutes remaining in the
session.
With drivers working through longer runs the session would come to a close
with Sainz remaining quickest from Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Russell,
Perez, Hamilton, Ocon, Alonso and Alex in tenth. The second Williams would
finish the session in 19th. The session was a continuation of the
considerable difference between the two Williams drivers. All the drivers
were again able to complete practice starts on the grid.
Alex Albon:
Alex would join the second Friday practice this time using the hard tyre for
his first run. Alex would set a 1m:25.244 to be ninth dropping to eleventh.
This would become 17th but with a 1m:24.531 he would improve to be 14th. A
1m:24.329 would see Alex improve but remained 14th. He would dropt o 15th
pitting after a seven lap run. He would return for a soft tyre run and was
able to set a 1m:22.835 to be sixth. Alex would pit briefly after a three
lap run. After the end of the Red Flag period Alex would return on used soft
tyres. He was currently 10th but he would fail to improve and would pit
after a three lap run. With just over ten minutes remaining Alex would
return again on the soft tyre but he would pit after a single lap. He would
return on used hard tyres. Going into Turn one he would have a substantial
lockup and on another lap would run wide across the gravel but was able to
continue on what was a long hard tyre run. With the end of the session he
would pit after a nine lap run.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas owuld take to the track this time using the medium tyre for his
first run. But he would fail to set a time pitting after just one lap. After
a short stop he would return and would set a 1m:24.423 to be 19th. Nicholas
had dtopped to 20th as he returned for a soft tyre run. He would set a
1m:23.982 to be 16th. He would drop to 18th pitting with the Red Flag. Upon
the restart he would return on used spoft tyres. Nicholas had dropped to
19th pitting after a three lap run. Nicholas would return still on the used
soft tyre but like his team-mate he would pit changing to the medium tyre
with eight minutes remaining in the session. He would compolete the session
having done an eight lap run on the medium tyre. |
