Team Summary:
After what was an encouraging opening Friday practice for the 2022 Canadian
Grand Prix the Williams Racing Team would commence their second Friday
session. As the first times started to come in it would be Verstappen
quickest with a 1m:15.618 using the medium tyre. Perez was second while
Ocon, was third on the soft. The Williams drivers had dropped down to
currently be 16th and 17th. Verstappen would improve with a 1m:15.096 now
followed by Leclerc, Perez, Ocon, Tsunoda, and Ricciardo sixth. Alonso was
now third but like Leclerc was using the soft tyre. Alonso would use his
soft tyres to move into second to now be ahead of Leclerc and Sainz. Fifth
was now Perez followed by Hamilton, Ocon, Norris, Tsunoda and Russell tenth.
The Williams drivers were back in their garages now 18th and 19th with
fifteen minutes of the session completed.
Sainz would improve to be second but team-mate Leclerc would move into this
spot but he was on the soft tyre and Sainz the medium. Verstappen had
improved his time with a 1m:14.532 as more drivers started soft tyre runs.
Vettel would improve to be fifth using the soft tyre as the track became
quite empty. But drivers using the soft tyre would start to return as
Verstappen on the soft would set a 1m:14.127 as we now had a Williams in
16th after a soft tyre run. Leclerc was second now followed by Russell in
third. Sainz was fourth followed by Alonso, Perez, Gasly, Vettel, Stroll,
and Magnussen tenth. After their soft tyre runs the Williams pair were
currently 18th and 19th and effectively slowest. Vettel was now fourth ahead
of Alonso, Gasly, Russell, Norris, Ricciardo, and Ocon now tenth.
With ten minutes remaining the order was Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Vettel,
Alonso, Gasly, Russell, Norris, Ricciardo and Ocon tenth. For the Williams
drivers they continued to be in 18th and 19th. the only driver yet to set a
time was Bottas who was having issues with his car. The session would end
with no change in positions as drivers completed longer race runs. For
Williams their session was very much a different one to the earlier Friday
practice with neither driver making any significant improvement finishing at
the bottom of the times. Certainly a tough way to finish the Friday
practice.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be first out in the second Friday session running on the medium
tyre. Alex would set a 1m:18.790 to be tenth dropping to 11th. This would
become 16th but with a 1m:17.356 he would move up to be 13th. Now 14th he
continued his run on the medium tyre. This would become 15th with a
1m:17.297 having completed six laps on the medium tyre. He would drop to be
17th one places ahead of his team-mate. He would pit after a six lap run.
With forty minutes remaining Alex would return for a soft tyre run. He would
improve with a 1m:16.336 but this would only see him 16th. He would continue
to lap using the soft tyre. As other times were set he would drop to be
18th. He would improve with a 1m:16.171 remaining 18th. Alex would pit after
a seven lap run. Alex would return for a further medium tyre run. Alex would
complete a thirteen lap run prior to completing a practice start on the grid
to end his session.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow Alex out in the session also using the medium tyre. A
1m:18.867 would see Nicholas currently 12th. Even with a 1m:18.379 Nicholas
would not improve currently slowest. He would find time with a 1m:17.890 but
continued to remain slowest. He would also pit after a six lap run. With
thirty minutes remaining Nicholas would return for a soft tyre run and would
set a 1m:16.509 but would remain 19th. He would pit after a five lap run
returning shortly after for a further medium tyre run on used medium tyres.
Nicholas would have a moment at the chicane that saw him cut the corner to
avoid the outside wall. Nicholas would also complete his long race run on
the medium tyre prior to completing a practice start on the grid. |
