Team Summary:
After what had been a difficult series of practice sessions the prospects
for the Williams Racing Team in qualifying was very much an unknown. So far
both Williams drivers seemed to struggle with the softer tyre which could
pose significant problems for them. The opening eighteen minute period would
commence with cars coming out all on the soft tyre. The first of the
Williams would come out as Zhou set a 1m:21.065 followed by Tsunoda and
Gasly. Verstappen was next out joining team-mate Perez. Both Ferrari's would
come out as the Williams went third. But Perez would set a 1m:20.3447 to see
the Williams' 1.9s off the pace. Tsunoda's time had been deleted due to
track limits.
There was a rush of drivers coming out now including the second Williams as
Verstappen set a 1m:20.091 to be quickest. Leclerc would go quickest with a
1m:19.861 followed by Sainz and Verstappen. Hamilton was fourth while the
Williams were currently 14th and 18th. Russell was now fourth followed by
Hamilton, Bottas, Perez, Zhou, Norris and Ocon tenth. The Williams cars
would pit currently 16th and 20th. As the last few minutes of the session
counted down both Williams would return for their second runs. The session
would end as drivers completed their final laps. The Williams pair would
finish in 19th and 20th while the top ten would finish with Leclerc still
quickest from Sainz, Verstappen, Russell, Magnussen, Hamilton, Bottas,
Perez, Zhou and Ricciardo tenth.
The second period of qualifying would see Sainz fastest from Russell and
Hamilton. Fourth was Magnussen followed by Perez, Leclerc, Norris, and
Bottas eighth. But Verstappen would go quickest right at the end of the
period with a 1m:19.219. But Norris would have his time deleted seeing
Schumacher in tenth. So we had Verstappen quickest from Sainz, Russell,
Hamilton, Magnussen, Perez, Leclerc, Bottas, Ricciardo and Schumacher.
The opening runs in the final period would see Verstappen quickest with a
1m:19.073 followed by Sainz, Perez, Russell, Hamilton, Bottas, Ricciardo,
Magnussen, Schumacher and Leclerc had yet to set a time having spun on his
warm up lap seeing him forced to pit without a time. With the second runs it
would be Leclerc fastest with a 1m:18.750 followed by Verstappen, Sainz,
Russell, Perez, Hamilton, Bottas, Magnussen, Ricciardo and Schumacher tenth.
For Williams Racing this qualifying can only be viewed as a continuation of
their qualifying woes. A very tough weekend so far and one can only hope
that with tyre management playing a big part in the race the team may be
able to secure a positive result. |
