Team Summary:
Both Williams drivers would complete their installation laps but they had
gone out on different tyres. The track would empty but with ten minutes
complete Perez would be first back out and would set a 1m:34.956 to set the
quickest time with Wehrlein second. More drivers would start to come out
including both Williams cars. Alonso would go second followed by Grosjean
and Wehrlein all on the medium tyre. The first moment of the session would
be when Alonso would spin at the Spoon curve hitting the barrier but he was
able to continue and return to his part with a slightly damaged car.
McLaren team-mate Button was now third while the Williams drivers would drop
to seventh and eighth. Raikkonen was now quickest with a 1m:34.746 with
Perez and Hulkenberg second and third. All three were on the soft tyre with
Verstappen fourth on the hard tyre.
On the soft tyre Rosberg would go quickest with a 1m:33.751 followed by
Hamilton and Raikkonen. Vettel would go third seeing team-mate Raikkonen
fourth. Ricciardo and Verstappen were seventh and eighth running on the hard
tyre. Perez was out running with the halo. With the first forty minutes
complete the track would empty with the order Rosberg from Hamilton, Vettel,
Raikkonen, Perez, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Alonso and Button
tenth. The Williams pair were twelfth and fourteenth. Drivers would return
with many switching tyre compounds with both Force India cars moving to the
medium tyre. Still on the soft tyre Raikkonen would go second with a
1m:33.817 to be just 0.066 behind Rosberg. Vettel would go quickest with a
1m:33.525 only to see Rosberg move ahead with a 1m:32.431 with both on the
soft tyre. Rosberg was 1.024 ahead of Vettel. Ricciardo was fifth, running
on the medium tyre, with a 1m:34.112.
Hamilton would go second with a 1m:32.646 to be 0.215 behind Rosberg. The
order was Rosberg, Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Verstappen,
Hulkenberg, Perez, Alonso and Valtteri tenth. The top four times were all
set on the soft tyre. The session would come to an end with no change in the
top ten. The Williams drivers would finish in tenth and sixteenth in what
appeared to be a normal type of Friday running from the Williams team.
Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would follow his team-mate out for his installation lap but was
running on the medium tyre. Valtteri would return continuing on the medium
tyre and would set a 1m:37.126 to be third, dropping to fourth. As others
went faster he would drop to eleventh. Valtteri would improve with a
1m:36.566 to be ninth. He would drop to twelfth and would also pit briefly
leaving some nice rubber tyre tracks upon his return. Valtteri would pit
returning to his garage having completed twelve laps. Valtteri would return
coming out on new medium tyres. Valtteri would improve with a 1m:35.381 to
be eighth. He would drop to ninth having pitted. Valtteri would return
currently tenth still working through longer runs on the medium tyre.
Valtteri's engineer would ask for two laps of "Bottas saving". What that is
exactly we will not likely know. Valtteri would complete nineteen laps on
his second run.
Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out for Williams running on the hard tyre completing
his installation lap. Felipe would come out for his first run but had
switched to the medium tyre. Felipe would set a slow 1m:53.731 to be slowest
having run wide complaining about understeer at Turn one. His next lap was a
1m:43.087 to be twelfth. But his next lap would see him move up to fourth
ahead of Valtteri with a 1m:36.934. Like Valtteri he would drop down the
times being tenth, still complaining of understeer. This would become
twelfth but Felipe was still on the medium tyre. Felipe would improve with a
1m:36.827 to be thirteenth. Felipe would pit briefly returning to the track
only to pit again and return. He would also return to his garage having
completed eleven laps.
With his mechanics working on his car Felipe would drop to sixteenth, still
in his garage. With just under thirty minutes remaining Felipe would return
to the track still on the medium tyre. Felipe would set a 1m:36.169 to be
fifteenth. After just four laps Felipe would pit still looking to improve.
He would drop to sixteenth to be behind Nasr. With eight minutes remaining
Felipe would finally return to the track. He would not improve having only
been able to complete another six laps. |
