Canadian GP: Uneventful qualifying for Williams Martini

Team Summary:
Q1: The opening eighteen minute period would commence without Magnussen with the team being unable to get his car repaired. For Williams their pace was still an unknown as the last practice session was cut short. Cars would come out with all on the ultrasoft tyre but Williams would be waiting prior to coming out. It had rained prior to the session as Raikkonen went fastest with a 1m:18.550 only to see Ericsson and Palmer go quicker. But their times would be quickly beaten with Rosberg setting a 1m:14.001 with Vettel second followed by Hamilton. But the times continued to fall with Vettel going quickest with a 1m:13.925 but Rosberg would go quicker with a 1m:13.714. Valtteri was now fifth and Felipe twelfth.

Ricciardo was now fourth with Valtteri now sixth. Ricciardo would improve to be third with a 1m:14.030. Verstappen was seventh followed by Hulkenberg and Button. Hulkenberg was on the supersoft tyre. There were a few drops of rain falling as drivers continued to circulate finding improvements with their ultrasoft tyres. The period would end with Rosberg fastest from Vettel and Ricciardo. The Williams pair were fifth and twelfth. It was looking like the cooler track conditions were making it difficult getting the ultrasoft tyre working.

Q2: Like the first period the second fifteen minute period would see a rush of drivers coming out. Again the Williams team were waiting before sending their cars out. Kvyat would set a 1m:14.639 but the period would be red flagged with Sainz crashing into the barrier at the final chicane, the "Wall of Champions." He made contact with the rear right which then dragged the front into the barrier. For Williams this worked in their favour as they had not wasted a set of tyres. For Williams their first run would see them first and second but both Hamilton and Rosberg would go quicker. Hamilton had set a 1m:13.076.

Raikkonen was now third but Ricciardo went quicker to be third. Valtteri would improve to be fourth followed by Verstappen, Raikkonen, Felipe, and Hulkenberg. Vettel would go seventh seeing Felipe drop to eighth. Kvyat was now tenth and Alonso moved in to ninth. With the final runs Valtteri and Felipe would finish in fourth and eighth. Hulkenberg was able to move into ninth and Alonso now tenth. Both both Williams cars had comfortably made it into Q3.

Q3: Valtteri would go second behind Ricciardo but Verstappen was now second. Everyone was trying to warm up their tyres. Hamilton would set the quickest time with a 1m:12.812 with Rosberg second with a 1m:12.874. Verstappen was now third followed by Vettel and Ricciardo. Raikkonen was out for his first run with Vettel also coming out again. All ten drivers were out with Raikkonen going sixth. Vettel would set a 1m:12.990 to be third. Ricciardo was now fourth, 1m:13.166, as Rosberg pitted. This would see Hamilton on pole followed by Rosberg and Vettel. For Williams Valtteri and Felipe were closely matched finishing in seventh and eighth. The pair were separated by just 0.099s.

Felipe Massa:
Q1: Felipe would be first out for Williams with four minutes of the session completed. He was on the ultrasoft tyre. Felipe was down in seventh after his first timed lap setting a 1m:15.344. Felipe would rop to twelfth but would improve with a 1m:14.815 to be tenth. Felipe was still out and pushing but he would drop to eleventh. Felipe would pit and with the end of the period he would see himself twelfth.

Q2: Felipe would wait behind Valtteri as the period restarted. Felipe would beat Valtteri in the middle sector finishing with a 1m:14.130 to move ahead of his team-mate. Felipe would drop to seventh. He would pit seeing himself drop to eighth. Felipe would come back out on a new set of supersoft tyres with Felipe close to the cut off zone. A sensible move from Williams. Felipe would improve with a 1m:13.864 but remained eighth.

Q3: Felipe would watch his team-mate go out for the final period. It was looking like Felipe was only going to limit his run. Felipe would come out with six minutes remaining. Felipe would set a 1m:13.769 to be seventh right behind his team-mate. Felipe would drop to eighth and would pit after his single run.
