Dickie Stanford Biography

Dickie Stanford's motorsport career began working on Formula Fords, after he left school. As a result of this he progressed on to becoming a full time mechanic working on Formula Ford and FF2000. He would move next to the Sports 2000 category where he was mechanic to James Weaver.

He would then move into Formula Three working for Tiga. This was followed by two years working for Ralt in their Formula Two team, when Jonathan Palmer and Mike Thackwell were driving.

After Formula Two the logical progression was to move up into Formula One and in 1985 he would join Williams as a mechanic on Nigel Mansell's car. He was promoted to Chief Mechanic in November 1990 then Team Manager in November 1995.

In his role as WilliamsF1 Team Manager, he has the overall responsibility for the Race Team whether at the factory or on circuit.

Dickie was born near Highworth in Wiltshire. He now lives near Marlborough with his wife and two children and his hobbies include restoring his 1968 250SL Mercedes and tinkering with radio-controlled model planes and cars.
