Austrian GP: Williams Martini drop down the order in FP2

The second Friday practice for the 2015 Austrain GP would see both Williams Martini drivers finish well down the times with Valtteri BOttas 14th and Felipe Massa 15th. Both drivers would fail to make any real improvment on their first option tyre runs seeing them drop down the order. Both drivers would then focus on longer runs with Valtteri using both the option and prime tyres while Felipe would stick with the super soft tyre. On the longer runs both drivers would set competitive times.

Team Summary:
The first quick time was set by Raikkonen with a 1m:11.259 followed by Vettel. Two cars remained in the pits and they were the Williams pair. Everyone was on the soft tyre as Raikkonen improved with a 1m:10.298. With a threat of rain the teams were keen on getting track time. Hamilton was now second and Rosberg third. Felipe Massa would set the first time for Williams with a 1m:11.644 to be eleventh. Hamilton would set a 1m:10.137 to be quickest while Valtteri moved into eighth. Both drivers would pit currently in fifth and eighth. Raikkonen would be the first out on the super soft tyre with an hour remaining. He would set a 1m:09.860 to go quickest by 0.277. Despite going fastest in the middle sector he would not improve on his time.

As other drivers took to the option tyre Valtteri and Felipe would drop to seventh and tenth. Both Williams drivers were waiting in their garages for other drivers to complete their option tyre runs. A 1m:09.611 from Rosberg to go quickest running on the option tyre. Valtteri and Felipe were now ninth and tenth with fifty minutes remaining. Vettel was now quickest with a 1m:09.600 from Rosberg. Thirty minutes remaining and drivers were now out on longer runs running both the soft and super soft tyres. Fifteen minutes remaining and Valtteri and Felipe were in fourteenth and fifteenth. Both drivers were on long runs on the option tyre running in the 1m:12s and 1m:13s. Felipe's long run on the option tyre was looking quite competitive. The Williams drivers would finish the session in fourteenth and fifteenth.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be the first Williams to leave the pits and his first lap was a 1m:11.644 to be eleventh. He would drop to twelfth then thirteenth. Felipe was able to set a 1m:11.374 to be tenth. Felipe was able to move up into seventh taking the spot from Valtteri. His time was a 1m:11.011. Felipe was now eighth with an hour and ten minutes remaining. He would say that he had made a mistake and he was told to do one more lap. Felipe would be first out for his option tyre run. Felipe was currently fifteenth failing to improve on the option tyre. Felipe would complain that he had no balance at all with his car and he would pit. Felipe would follow Valtteri out also on the option tyre. Felipe would continue a long run on the option tyre with times in the 1m:13s. On his fifteenth lap on the option tyre he would set a 1m:12.609. Felipe had now completed twenty two laps on the option tyre with ten minutes remaining. With the end of the session Felipe had completed thirty three laps on the option tyre.

Valtteri Bottas:
While Felipe was on his first timed lap Valtteri would take to the track. His first lap would be a 1m:11.343 to be eighth. Valtteri would set a 1m:10.746 to move up to fifth. Valtteri would follow Felipe out on his super soft tyre. Valtteri would pit currently fourteenth. Valtteri would return to the track again on the option tyre. After a very short run he would pit. After adjustments to his car Valtteri would return to the track with twenty minutes remaining. Valtteri would continue his run setting times in the 1m:13s. But on his eleventh lap he would set a 1m:15.140. He would drop down to a 1m:12.921. Valtteri would pit and would change to a used soft tyre. Valtteri would complete nine laps in his run with seventeen laps on the soft tyre.
