Things did not get any better for the AT&T Williams team after the second Friday practice session for the 2010 Spanish GP. Their drivers were in 15th and 18th with Rubens Barrichello leading Nico Hulkenberg. It would be a costly session with Nico crashing and heavily damaging his FW32. It was also another frustrating session, apart from the crash, simply due to the lack of pace from the FW32.

 Spanish GP Friday 2nd Practice

After a troubled first Friday practice the AT&T Williams team would be hoping for an improved second Friday practice session for the 2010 Spanish Grand Prix. Chandhok would return to driving duties at HRT and with the start of the session it would be the Sauber's who would take to the track first, lead by Kobayashi. Di Grassi, Petrov, and Webber would also come out. They were joined by Sutil and Kubica. Kobayashi would set a 1m:23.385 and De la Rosa a 1m:24.197. Nico would come out on the track joined shortly after by Rubens. De la Rosa was now fastest with a 1m:23.090. Di Grassi was third while Vettel took to the track along with several other drivers.

BarrichelloKubica was now fastest, 1m:22.694, from De la Rosa, Kobayashi, Sutil, Di Grassi, and Petrov. De la Rosa was able to improve with a 1m:22.976 while Nico's first lap would see him fourth with a 1m:23.520. Petrov would move ahead of Nico and into fourth. Liuzzi was now third followed by Kobayashi. Rubens was now tenth, 1m:27.510, while Petrov went fastest with a 1m:22.531. He would be passed by team-mate Kubica, 1m:21.937, while Sutil was now second. Nico had dropped to seventh, 1m:23.765. Kobayashi was back up to third while Rubens was able to improve to be seventh, 1m:23.555, to be ahead of Nico. Nico would pit currently in eighth. Both Mercedes cars were out on the track along with Button. Schumacher was now second, 1m:21.692, while Kubica would pit. Rubens and Nico were ninth and tenth.

Schumacher was on a quicker lap going fastest with a 1m:21.322 to be 0.615 ahead of Kubica. Rosberg was up to fourth which became fifth as Button moved into second. Liuzzi was in sixth while Rosberg would move up to third, 1m:21.686. Massa was able to improve and move up to sixth. Rubens would pit with he and Nico twelfth and thirteenth. Petrov had dropped to ninth while Webber was back out on the track. Hamilton had yet to come
out while Schumacher would pit. Webber would move up to seventh, 1m:22.242, while Buemi would move ahead of the Williams drivers and into twelfth. Massa would improve to be fifth, 1m:22.115, while Webber would put in a quicker lap to be fastest, 1m:21.272. team-mate Vettel would leave his garage along with Hamilton. Nico was back out while Alonso could only manage sixteenth on his first run.

Kubica was now fifth, 1m:21.937, while Webber was able to improve with a 1m:21.063. So at the front it was Webber from Schumacher, with Button third, Rosberg fourth, Kubica fifth and Felipe Massa in sixth. Hamilton would jump ahead of everyone and into second, 1m:21.305. Vettel was now in seventh while Webber would pit. The session would be stopped as we had Nico crashing his Williams at the Campsa corner. His car was stuck in
the gravel after having struck the tyre barrier. Nico had ran wide coming round Campsa but decided to keep his foot on the accelerator after he had left the track. This would see him spin the car and fly across the track and into the tyre barrier. The front of the FW32 was badly damaged. Nico was able to get out of his car while the rest of the field had returned back to their pits. Nico's car was lifted away ending his session.

HulkenbergThere was just under sixty minutes remaining in the session while the marshals worked on repairing the tyre barrier. The session would restart with Schumacher out first followed by a queue of drivers. Rubens was out on the track along with the majority of the field. Only Vettel and Senna were still in the pits but Vettel would come out. Sixth placed Kubica would pit briefly while Alonso would improve to be in tenth, 1m:22.224. Massa was on the softer tyre moving up to sixth, 1m:21.700. Webber and Schumacher would pit while Rubens and Nico were now in seventeenth and eighteenth. Button would pit while Alonso would find some time and move up to fifth with a 1m:21.660. Webber was still fastest from Hamilton, Schumacher, Button, Alonso, Rosberg, Massa, Vettel, Kubica, and Liuzzi in tenth. Rubens had pitted having set a 1m:23.119 while Nico's car was brought back into the pit lane under covers.

Massa was now second, 1m:21.302, and would pit while Webber was back out and was on a quick lap going fastest in sector one and two. De la Rosa was up to eleventh while Webber would set a time of 1m:20.175 to be 1.127 seconds ahead of second placed Massa. With forty minutes remaining the order was Webber from Massa, Hamilton,
Schumacher, Button, Alonso, Vettel, Rosberg, Kubica and De la Rosa now in tenth. Webber was now running on the softer tyre explaining his quicker pace. Schumacher was on an improved lap moving into second with a time of 1m:20.757. Alonso was out on the track joined by Button. De la Rosa was now seventh, 1m:21.672, as Schumacher would pit. He like Webber was on the softer tyre for his second placed time. Alonso was on the
softer tyre going fastest in the first sector. He would set a time of 1m:21.108 to now be in third. Button was also on the softer tyre and only in sixth.

HulkenbergRubens was also on the softer tyre and had improved to be in fourteenth, 1m:22.192. Rubens would say that the only place he was losing time was through the Campsa corner, because the car was bouncing a lot through the apex and exit. Rosberg was now fourth, 1m:21.271, also on the softer tyre. Massa was now fifth from Hamilton, Button, and De la Rosa in eighth. Like others Kubica would also improve to be fourth, 1m:21.202, while Schumacher would come back out. Rubens had pitted while Hamilton was out on the track running on the harder tyre. Rubens was still in fourteenth while slowest was Glock with a 1m:26.829. He would drop to fifteenth while Buemi was fourteenth. Webber was back on the track while Trulli and Kovalainen were now nineteenth and twentieth. On the softer tyre Vettel was able to find a huge chuck of time going fastest with a time of 1m:19.965. Petrov would take to the gravel at Turn three having run wide and then across the gravel. He was
able to continue while third placed Schumacher would leave the pit lane.

Vettel would pit with just under twenty minutes remaining. Rubens would drive down the pit lane returning to the track while he was joined by more drivers as the session wound down. Vettel was still fastest from Webber, Schumacher, Alonso, Kubica, Hamilton, Rosberg, Massa, Button and in tenth Sutil. Hamilton was up to fifth with a 1m:21.191 with ten minutes left in the session. Barrichello was on a longer run to gather race data while Hamilton would pit while Vettel would come back out for his final run. The Red Bull driver was well down on the number of laps run compared to his main rivals. Massa was now back on the track while Rubens was still in fifteenth. Rosberg would pit with six minute left in the session. It would appear that Vettel was on a high fuel run using the softer tyre.

Rosberg was back out as Alguersuari would come to a stop out on the track with a small amount of smoke coming from the back of his car. He would get out of his Torro Rosso while his car was craned away. Everyone was back out on the track as the session came to an end with little changing in terms of positions. For the AT&T Williams team it would see its drivers in fifteenth and eighteenth but it would be a costly session with Nico's crash and a damaged FW32. It was also another frustrating session, apart from the crash, simply due to the lack of pace from the FW32 even with its updates.
