Montoya takes pole in Italy
7th pole for JPM

For BMW WilliamsF1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya qualifying for the 2002 Italian GP would see him return to his best form with pole position ahead of Michael Schumacher and team-mate Ralf. It was a encouraging performance for the team but the big question is whether this result will see a race victory.

| Qualifying for the Italian
Grand Prix would come down to a battle between the WilliamsF1 and Ferrari
drivers but at the end of the session it would be Juan Pablo Montoya who
would secure another pole position, while team-mate Ralf Schumacher was
third. A great performance by the WilliamsF1 team.
But neither driver would improve leaving Juan Pablo on pole, his seventh of the season. Juan Pablo's average speed of 259.379 km/h setting a new all-time record, eclipsing Keke Rosberg’s 258.983 km/h average that was set at Silverstone in 1985. Jaguar's Eddie Irvine would finish in sixth with team-mate de la Rosa eighth, an encouraging performance for the team. A great performance from the BMW WilliamsF1 team but the question now is whether today's results can be turned into a race victory, lets hope so. |
