Deal done to sell Arrows to Red Bull?

As has already been reported today, Arrows have given themselves until Tuesday to decide whether they are going to continue racing in the 2002 Championship. According to an inside source, the team need to pay up to Cosworth on Wednesday, and a deal could have been done to make that payment.

The source just happens to be the official Jordan Grand Prix website and, if current rumours are to be believed, Jordan will also be using Cosworth power in the 2003 season. The official team site, and let’s face it you can’t get closer to the sport than a press office working with an F1 team, has voiced rumours that a deal has been done with Red Bull to secure the future of the Arrows team.

It has been no secret that Red Bull want to form an American Formula 1 team and, according to Jordan, agreement has been reached with Morgan Grenfell for the team to be sold. It is likely that in the short term the energy drinks company would become the title sponsor, but already there is talk of a future name change, with Arrows to become Red Bull Team USA.

The Arrows team need to make another payment to Cosworth by Wednesday of this week, in order that they have some engines to run for the weekend at the French Grand Prix. Assuming that this rumour has some substance, the long term future for the Arrows team looks very bright indeed.
