Britain: Back injury forces Button out

Jenson Button will be missing from second free practice at Silverstone as the Briton sits out of the session with a painful back. While the team prepare for the British Grand Prix, Jenson will be resting, intending to return to the car on Saturday morning for the third free practice session.

Jenson has suffered pain in his back since his airborne ride at Indianapolis, where contact with team mate Rubens Barrichello forced his car through the air and crashing back down hard. The high forces placed on drivers at the Northamptonshire circuit have aggravated the problem.

"He is experiencing the same twinge in his back that he experienced as a result of the first corner incident at Indianapolis," a team spokeswoman told Autosport. "As a precaution Jenson will rest this afternoon. At this point there is no reason to suggest he won't be back in the car tomorrow."

It is expected that Christian Klien will take over the car for the 90 minute session this afternoon.
