Round 11, Hungary, Magyar Nagydíj

The Magyar Nagyíj circuit is one of the most difficult circuits to race at, its narrow, tight and twisty layout makes it hard to overtake, but at the same time it can provide thrilling action.

Take last years race for example, rain hit the circuit, making the circuit extremely hard to drive on, let alone race on. In contrast, many of the old races at the Hungaroring have been dull to say the least. The dusty nature of the circuit, due to under use of the circuit, makes it incredibly hard to overtake.

The circuit first hosted a race back in 1986 where the Brazilian, Nelson Piquet won the 76 lap race ahead of fellow countryman Ayrton Senna, Piquet then won the race the following year again ahead of Senna, however in 1988, it would be Senna who would take the top step of the podium.

The seven time world champion, Michael Schumcher, is the most successful driver to have raced at the 4.38KM circuit having won four times, and Williams is the most successful team to have raced at the Hungarian grand prix, the Grove based team having won 8 times.

The tight and twisty layout of the circuit, combined with the relatively low top end speeds means the teams use a ‘Monaco’ like setup for the 70 lap race.

Pole position is vital to the drivers, as the circuit presents few overtaking opportunities.
