Massa hints at Ferrari not to favour Alonso

Felipe Massa still carries the weight of moving over for Fernando Alonso last year, as he indirectly hints at Ferrari not to favour Fernando Alonso this season.

Speaking to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, the Brazilian said, “Choosing a number one driver too soon reduces the (team’s) chances to win the championship from two to one."

This surely means that Felipe wants Ferrari not to repeat what they did last year at the German GP, and give him equal chance to prove his capabilities.

“As to my capacities, I know how to win — races and also the championship,” he said, and it should not be forgotten how close he came to winning the Championship in 2008.

He said he is also confident about the new Pirelli tyres which he tested, and finds it suits him better.

“Compared to the Bridgestones, they are working better for me. They are as I like them.”

Whether Ferrari will take the hint, and whether Massa will match Alonso, however, remains to be seen.

Can't see it happening, really. But always expect the unexpected.

sadly, sometimes that's true, esp. since recession, but not always sessions, as top teams like ferrari and mclaren would always go for winning drivers than paid ones.....but then if you get winning drivers who comes along with, like alonso, then that's having the cake and eating it too grinning smiley

sponsors like santander need alonso and it's not his fault, if they follow him.

Massa seems to always think it is his turn next... The 'next' never comes sadly.

It is simple enough. One teammate has to beat the other decisively to earn the top dog honors. Massa has to do just that. We know Alonso is a pitbull just like MS.

Something tells me NR will be moaning too once MS finds his feet this season.

Massa remains me of Webber. Claiming he has what it takes to win and then blames the universe for not aligning to make it happen.

I think Alonso's drive will continue to keep Massa at bay.

The Michael/Nico duel may be interesting to watch.
We at Mercedes are hoping this year will be nip and tuck.
The better they both do the better the points.

massa find the tyres suiting to his style, this might work in his favour, hopefully a great battle ahead.
