Fernando Alonso fired the first warning signal to his championship rivals by being fastest on both the practice sessions at Spa today.
The morning session of Spa was hit by rains, and it was only in the final 20 minutes that drivers managed to post quick timing, with Alonso topping the session with a time of 2:00.797 secs, ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel, while Felipe Massa was 7th fastest.
The second session was comparatively dry, with only mist-like rain falling at the begining of the session, as Alonso bettered the morning time quickly, running on intermediate tyres.
The session at the closing minutes were brought to a temporary halt, with red flag coming up, as a few spectators were deemed to be in unsafe area. The session re-started with just four minutes on the clock remaining, and possibly a single lap for every driver to make.
Alonso made good of the opportunity by running a perfect lap, that saw him finish on top of the timesheets.at 1.49.032 secs, followed by Adrian Sutil of Force India, Lewis Hamilton and Roberg Kubica. Felipe Massa finshed 5th fastest of the day.
Ferrari are running an updated blown diffuser this weekend, and it seems it is already doing it's job.
The other teams that were running new updates were, Force India trying a new blown diffuser, Red Bull experimenting with aerodynamic flow paint in the early session, while Renault had brought their own F-duct solution.
