Ferrari In Trouble For Canada

It seems as though Ferrari is in trouble for the Canadian Grand Prix, after Raikkonen and Massa qualified 4th and 5th respectively, almost a second of the time set by the impressive Lewis Hamilton. Kimi and Felipe will certainly have to fight very hard to catch up to the McLaren duo of Hamilton and Alonso, and a victory will be even more of a challenge for the Scuderia.

"Of course I would have preferred to have been further forward on the starting grid, but we know we have a competitive car when running at race pace and as far as today's result is concerned, there is always the unknown factor concerning the fuel levels of those fighting it out in Q3. I didn't have any particular problems today, but I lacked a bit of speed when compared to our closest rivals. However, before getting upset about it, we must wait and see how the race goes. We will do our utmost to get the best result possible."

Felipe Massa
Qualifying: 5th + 0'00.863

"We certainly cannot be happy with this result, but let's wait for tomorrow's race to produce a true picture of the situation, especially in terms of what strategies the teams have opted to go with. Our car is very good in terms of its race pace and with a bit of luck it might be possible to make up a few places at the start.

Fourth and fifth place starting positions are by no means a terrible result and in Canada is is quite possible to fight back to the front. Unfortunately, this shows that McLaren are indeed very fast and can beat Ferrari consistently. This comes as a surprise, as during testing at Paul Ricard HTTT, the F2007 was very quick on the Montreal like layout. Also distressing is the fact that Nick Heidfeld qualified 3rd in the BMW. No one is suggesting that BMW are now quicker than Ferrari, though it will be one extra obstacle between the Ferrari drivers and victory.

Only the race will show the Scuderia's true pace, but there is little doubt that the Canadian Grand Prix will be a difficult race.
