Circuit - Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track Driver - Kimi Raikkonen Car - Ferrari F2007
Kimi Raikkonen was the fastest driver on track for the Scuderia Ferrari, during the final two days of testing at the Paul Ricard HTTT in France. The track was in a configuration similar to that of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Canada, showing that the F2007 should be very strong for that Grand Prix.
The first two days saw the track in a Monaco like configuration. It also saw testing domination by Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren. The simple conclusion which can be drawn from the test is that McLaren will be fast in Monte Carlo and that Ferrari will be fast in Canada. This is largely due to the Ferrari F2007's long wheel base, something which will limit the car's turning radius in comparison to other machines. This will hurt Ferrari at the tight Monaco, but prove an advantage at the high speed track in Montreal.
On Kimi's first day of testing, the Finn ran 50 laps of the French circuit working on car setup and aerodynamic developments. He set the fastest time of the day, a 1'28.833. The final day of testing was more intensive with Raikkonen completing 101 laps, the fastest in 1'28.624.
The Grand Prix of Monaco is to be held on the 27th of May. The Canadian Grand Prix will then follow on the 10th of June. There is little doubt that the Scuderia will be strong in Montreal, though they will have to count on Raikkonen's prowess on the streets of Monte Carlo to succeed in that event. |
