What is expected to be new or improved due to it being the first Paddys car, the halo will be there, improved aerodinamics (major flaw).

Its just going to be so hard to build a car that is quicker than Mercedes or Ferrari, can Paddy and Williams do it?

Normal gearbox design, normal rear end cutout to use more rear downforce by diffuser and probably a complex sidepod entry as we have heads of 2017 Ferrari and Mercedes designs onboard now.

2014: 3rd in WCC
2015: 3rd in WCC
2016: 5th in WCC
2017: 5th in WCC (so far)

So I expect FW41 to finish 7th in WCC.

If Paddy is half as good as they say he is then we should have a competitive car next year.

He is as good as everybody claims, like Pat being as good as he was called.
It's upto out resources and staff to use their potential.

I suggest we will get a cantilever wishbone front suspension.

I heard we were going to run the Mercedes gearbox next year. Don't know of the truth in it.

Someone posted a quote from Paddy a month ago where he stated Merc gearbox - I assumed it was a misquote. Do FI run the Merc gearbox - they used to buy their whole rear end from Merc. Shame as gearbox design used to be our specialism - even Sam Michael still had us innovating - although with limited resources maybe Paddy has decided there is better ways of spending research & development money.

That is my understanding.
But is not clear if Mercedes will manufacture de gearbox or
would license the tech. to Williams and let them build it.

Lets not forget: once the gearbox was build it needs to be validated by Mercedes.
If they get the same gearbox the validation part will not be required,

Yep FI do use most of the back end of Merc:

“From what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t say there’s a huge range – it’s more than there are one or two outliers,” says Williams Chief Technical Officer Paddy Lowe. “Mercedes are the longest, followed by Force India – but a lot of that is probably dictated by designs coming from Mercedes as Force India use Mercedes’ power unit and rear end.

I just hope they throw away any design philosophies that they have used in the last few years and really start afresh. What Williams has done with the last few cars simply hasn't worked.

I hope that Paddy will bring this new look at things because if they don't I can't see the FW41 been any better than this years car.

I agree Andrew I think Williams need to start afresh with Paddy on a complete new car.

I don't know abouth Merc gearbox rummor. First there4 was a rummor of new Williams gearbox for this year, that was developing for next year but Paddy accelerated development. We then saw a new rear susspension geometry in Hungary test, but no clear pic or confirmation of the new gearbox. And now we woul go Mercedes for nex year after investing all the money in our box allready? We will see.

FW41 will have a diffirent look to this years car, that is what I get from Massa quote.

Quote:
Massa
“The idea is completely different for developing a new car, which I believe Williams can have next year in terms of even the looks.

The main problem is our front wing is not effective for the air flow!!! Easy.

What massa meant was he has been asking for new colours for ages. And now finally paddy comes, they will use a new colour scheme!
